Freedom Day & Community Activities: May 26, 27th. & 28th

May 26th Saturday:

Montana State Softball Tournament in progress at the Polson Sports Complex – go out on Kerr Dam road.

Glacier Brewery celebrates its anniversary: Free Beverages available for all veterans. Located approx. 5 blocks below the hospital in the industrial section.

Free Golf for all veterans at the Polson Golf Course.

Free Bowling for all veterans at the Sports Page Bowl.

Participating downtown merchants will be offering discounts to veterans.

Social get together for all military, past and present as well as the public, at the Polson V.F.W club from 6 P.M. to 9P.M.

MAY 27TH. 2007
THE “ARMED FORCES MEMORIAL BRIDGE”
DEDICATION

All past and present military are encouraged to wear their uniforms on the 27th. and 28th. of May. Also, contact us for riding on floats and parade entries @ 883-4358.

Morning of the 27th. Free Golf and Bowling for Veterans.

Participating stores will be open and offer discounts to Veterans.

10: A.M. to 2: P.M. Transportation from Rodeo Grounds for drop off’s to Polson, and Tours of the Miracle of America Museum. Transportation consists of two trolley cars by Three Dog Down and other busses by the School Dist. Also, the Polson Main Street Museum will be open for tours.

3P.M. Announcement as to the starting of the event and the color guards and Armed Forces representatives.

Dedication ceremony starts with a cannon blast to signal the 89th. Cavalry color guard to proceed across the bridge on horseback. Upon entrance to the park by the color guard, the audience will be asked to rise and honor the flag and colors. At the time of stationary positioning of the Color Guard, it will be announced that a solo presentation of the National Anthem will be sung by Sherry Helm.

After National Anthem, an announcement for the Tribal Anthem to be presented by the Tribal Warrior Society.

Past Military representing all branches of the Armed Forces dressed in uniform will be at attention and full salute: Army- Pruett Helm; Navy- Jerry Whealon; Coast Guard- Rich Forbes; Air Force-Wes Vert; Marines- Marines-Tara Ewers.

Approx. 3:20 P.M.

An announcement of the Freedom Day Kids from schools all over the Mission Valley to Sing the Freedom Day Song.

Introduction of Dignitaries of City of Polson, Lake County and S&K Tribes to accept dedication for the community.
Introduction of the Builder of the Designer of the Bridge, Mr. Kirk Rossland.

Introduction of three dignitaries to dedicate the Bridge: (Remarks approx. 3 minutes per speaker)
Major General Randall D. Mosley,
Adjutant General of the MontanaNational Guard – Will give remarks and present certificate to the City of Polson.

Jim Lynch, Director of the Montana Department of Transportation- Will give remarks and present certificate to Lake County.

Montana Representative Janna Taylor- Will give remarks and present certificate to the Salish and Kootenai Tribes.

Approx. 3:45 P.M.

Introduce the artist, Brian Schmid and builders, Wes Delaney, Jerry Whealon, Dave Mercer and Ken Gochis. A reading of the monument inscription will be given. The unveiling will be conducted by Bronze Star Recipient Marine Corps Cecil Baker. Rick Schoening will release doves to signify peace.

Approx. 4:00 P.M.

Announcement of flyovers over Bridge:

1st.- T-6 Military Trainer from Semi Tool- Kalispell

2nd.- A Stearman (bi-wing) air craft from Missoula

3rd.- Larry Ashcraft civilian aircraft

4th.-Chuck Jarecki civilian air craft to land in river and take off

5th.-Flyover of a Huey Helicopter Viet Nam Vintage

6th. —Helicopter flyover by Mack Binger from Polson

7th.- A National Guard Blackhawk helicopter flyover and bow to crowd.

At conclusion of bridge dedication, Announce that Transportation will be available to Linderman for those who cannot walk, and after Fireworks Display.
Announcement to crowd to assemble at the Linderman Football field for Following Schedule: Food Vendors available both days and displays at Linderman School and field.

5:45P.M.- Sky Divers Free Fall
6:00 P.M. -Drill exercise by the 89th cavalry. Calvary
6:15 P.M.-Pre-entertainment
7:00- Bop- A- Dips Concert
At dark, Fire Works Display by Jack Cross

Concludes activities for May 27th.

Memorial Day
May 28th. 2007

Parade entries gathering/line up at 9 am
12:30 P.M. Parade starts on main street beginning at Elks and ending at Linderman School.
Over 100 entries in parade.
Shortly after beginning of parade, an F-16 jet will flyover main street, Polson.
Helicopter and airplane flyovers on parade route.
Congressman Rehberg and Governor Schweitzer will participate in Parade.
Memorial Day Honors Program @ Polson cemetery 1:30 pm
2:45 P.M. Veterans Honoring at the Tribal Complex
At 4 pm after the parade, gather at Linderman school gym for Memorial Day Speeches and Ceremonies.
Military displays and Food vendors will continue both days

4 P.M. Memorial Event: Starts at Linderman Gymnasium
Audience to stand at presentation of colors.
Colors presentation by several color guards in procession- patriotic song to play during procession.
National Anthem sung by Greg Devlin, USAF (Ret)
The Warriors Society will present flags and sing the Tribal Anthem
Invocation by U.S.A. Major General Don Shea, (Ret), Formerly Chief of Chaplins
Introduction of guests: 12 Military Generals, Political Dignitaries and other Military Dignitaries.
4:30 Key note speech by major General Randall D. Mosley, the Adjutant General
4:50 Battle Hymn of the Republic by Polson Band & Choir.
5:00 Remarks by Congressman Rehberg
5:05 Introduction of our Gold Star Families
5:10 Remarks by Cathy Saltz, Mother of Matt Saltz, (Montana’s first fallen soldier in Iraq) Representing our Gold Star Families
5:15 Presentation of the Flag to parents of the Gold Star Families, escorted by Armed Forces members and presented by the Polson High School cheerleaders.
5:25 Presentation by Major General Don Williamson, USA (Ret) to the mayor, Co. Commissioners and Tribal Chairman as a Military Five Star Community.
Signed by the Secretary of Defense.
5:30 Key note speech by major General Paul Vallely, USA (Ret) : Fox Military News Analyst
5:45 Recognize or Veterans of Wars and Military Service Major General Don Williamson, USA (Ret)
5:50 Presentation of coins by Pete Deneault, Montana Military Appreciation Project for veterans of the War on Terror.
6:00 Memorial Day Service will be conducted as the concluding ceremony.
